This year the BGMAG is helping to recruit Black men to the 2007 Gay Men Sex Sur-vey (GMSS). Have you seen the questionnaire? Do you know what it is about?
Since 1997, Sigma Research has asked gay men or (men who have sex with men) about their sex lives. With over 16,000 men polled it’s the biggest survey of its kind in the world. It uses booklets or internet questionnaires and is carried out by Sigma research as part of the THT co-ordinated CHAPS programme.
On average, each year 250 or so Black men complete the survey. We think that this is a really small number especially as we know that there are far more of us out there. For example Bootylicious, the monthly London club, can hold up to 1000 men and that’s always packed.
When we complete the survey, which is completely anonymous, our answers get to be added to those of thousands of other men and then goes on to be used to identify and develop campaigns and services aimed at men who have sex with men. If you complete the survey we will get:
accurate information about the sexual health needs of Black men who have sex with men
accurate information about the sexual health needs of Black men who have sex with men, who have HIV
information we can use to improve sexual health services targeted at Black men who have sex with men
information we can use to improve the lives of young Black gay men
If you’ve received this letter it’s because we would like to you to take part in the sur-vey. You can do this by either completing the booklet questionnaire or going on-line and doing it there. Now over to you. And thank you for taking the time.
